The Provincial Court of Phuket sentenced five Russians to prison terms for kidnapping a Belarusian couple in order to extort 31 million baht (around $845,700) in cryptocurrency. This was reported by Bangkok Post.
The defendants, who initially denied involvement in the attack, fully admitted guilt during the investigation.
Each of them received two years in prison and the obligation to return the stolen funds.
It is worth noting that the incident occurred on January 29. The attackers kidnapped the family on their way home and did not release them until they received a transfer of all the cryptocurrency they had.
