Developers from Oyster Labs presented a Web3 smartphone based on The Open Network (TON) blockchain. The presentation took place on April 8 at a festival in Hong Kong.

Universal Basic Smartphone (UBS) gives users access to more than 600 decentralized applications in the ecosystem. It allows users to earn money from their own data and native token trading, as well as receive cashback for purchases in 14,000 stores worldwide.

UBS has modest hardware specifications: it is built on the Mediatek Helio P22 chipset, has an 8-core processor, 6/128 GB of memory, and a 4050 mAh battery. The camera and screen parameters are not disclosed.

The device is priced at $99, with an additional $30 for shipping.

ForkLog has requested comments from the TON team, which has not yet publicly commented on the smartphone.

As part of the Web3 Festival, the TON roadmap for 2024 was presented. It includes the implementation of gasless transactions, updating Wallet 5.0, and the development of a new cross-chain technology called Teleport. The team also announced plans to expand into the Asian market.

Earlier, the TON Society community partnered with the AI company HumanCode for 1 million TON tokens to implement a personal verification mechanism.
