The streaming service Spotify introduced the beta version of the new AI Playlist option, which allows users to create playlists based on prompts.

In addition to standard requests based on genre or era, Spotify uses neural networks to create a wider range of music selections. Examples of prompts include “indie-folk that will hug my brain” or “relaxing sounds to help me survive allergy season.”

Requests may include locations, animals, movie characters, colors, or emojis. The company noted that the best playlists are created using prompts that combine genres, moods, artists, and time periods.

After creating the playlist, users can adjust the result by sending commands such as “less upbeat” or “more pop music.” Users also have the option to remove disliked tracks from the generated selection.

To work with neural networks and machine learning, the company uses a variety of third-party tools. Spotify stated that the product is based on large language models that recognize user preferences. The service applies its personalization technology, which includes information about listening history.

Initially, access to the feature will be available to users in the UK and Australia.

Recall that in May 2023, Spotify removed thousands of AI-generated songs.
