The million mark was exceeded in September 2022, by the end of which the value reached 1.15 million. In annual terms, the growth was 159.2%.
In 2023, the number of crypto assets increased by another 72.3% – to 1.98 million.
The pace of new coin creation accelerated in 2024. As of April 11, 0.54 million tokens had already been created, meaning the launch of an average of 5300 crypto assets per day.
For comparison, experts noted that in the entire year of 2022, 0.71 million coins were created.
CoinGecko specialists noted that “in the first season of meme coins” in May 2023, 104,118 tokens were launched. In March 2024, the trend revived and the number of new coins broke a record – 195,735 in a month.
“As token launches are simplified with platforms like Pump.fun, and online trading becomes more accessible, future meme coin seasons could lead to even greater spikes,” conclude experts.
However, they noted that it is unknown whether the growth will be exponential, as the crypto industry strives to tokenize RWA on a larger scale.
It is worth noting that the community has differing opinions on the next meme coin boom. Some criticized it, while others found it beneficial for the industry.
