Solana developers have updated the software as part of efforts to tackle blockchain congestion leading to transaction delays.

“The v1.17.31 release is now recommended for general use by MainnetBeta validators. This release contains enhancements which will help alleviate the ongoing congestion on the Solana Network,” the message said.

Rex St. John from the Anza client team clarified that this is the “first round” of updates, followed by v1.18.

According to developer correspondence, testing of the release in the devnet should start on April 15. However, St. John admitted that there is no 100% guarantee of this.

Anza noted that the situational solution to the network congestion issue led to delays in the implementation of v1.18.

About a week ago, the Solana team acknowledged that the blockchain was experiencing a large number of failed transactions. Developers attributed this to the boom in meme tokens and significant growth in trading volumes on decentralized exchanges DEX in the ecosystem.

They announced a series of measures “in the coming days” to help reduce network congestion.

“Please upgrade when the outdated staking is less than 5%. Make sure you have time to monitor your nodes after the upgrade and report any issues to MB validators on Discord,” noted Anza.

Since the beginning of the year, Solana has attracted 49.3% of global investor interest in blockchain ecosystems, as calculated by CoinGecko.

According to Bernstein’s forecast, the network is “leading the charge” for on-chain payments adoption. Colosseum co-founder and former Solana Foundation growth lead Mattie Taylor believes that the blockchain will surpass Ethereum in the number of consumer Web3 applications.
